Veg­etable ven­dor killed as au­torick­shaw over­turns

CHANDI­GARH: A 35-year-old res­i­dent of Bu­rail was killed in a road ac­ci­dent af­ter the au­torick­shaw he was trav­el­ling in over­turned near In­dus­trial Area phase 2 here on Satur­day.

The vic­tim has been iden­ti­fied as Lax­man, a veg­etable ven­dor, who was on his way back home af­ter pur­chas­ing veg­eta­bles from Sec­tor 26 mar­ket. He was ac­com­pa­nied by two oth­ers, Vishav­nath Dalip and Sattu.

Po­lice said the auto-rick­shaw was be­ing driven rashly and the driver failed to ne­go­ti­ate a turn and the ve­hi­cle over­turned.

The po­lice was in­formed and the vic­tims were rushed to the Gov­ern­ment Med­i­cal Hospi­tal and Col­lege in Sec­tor 32, where Lax­man suc­cumbed to his in­juries. The body has been kept at the hospi­tal mor­tu­ary and will be handed over to fam­ily af­ter post-mortem.

The auto driver, Madan Chaud­hary, res­i­dent of Bu­rail, was ar­rested and later re­leased on bail.

A case un­der sec­tions 279, 337 and 304-A of In­dian Pe­nal Code (IPC) has been reg­is­tered in the Sec­tor 31 po­lice sta­tion.
