Vegetable vendor killed as autorickshaw overturns
CHANDIGARH: A 35-year-old resident of Burail was killed in a road accident after the autorickshaw he was travelling in overturned near Industrial Area phase 2 here on Saturday.
The victim has been identified as Laxman, a vegetable vendor, who was on his way back home after purchasing vegetables from Sector 26 market. He was accompanied by two others, Vishavnath Dalip and Sattu.
Police said the auto-rickshaw was being driven rashly and the driver failed to negotiate a turn and the vehicle overturned.
The police was informed and the victims were rushed to the Government Medical Hospital and College in Sector 32, where Laxman succumbed to his injuries. The body has been kept at the hospital mortuary and will be handed over to family after post-mortem.
The auto driver, Madan Chaudhary, resident of Burail, was arrested and later released on bail.
A case under sections 279, 337 and 304-A of Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered in the Sector 31 police station.
