Inspector suicide: wife, in-laws get 3-year jail
SAS NAGAR: A local court on Saturday awarded three-year imprisonment to a woman and her parents for driving her husband, an inspector with Punjab police, to suicide in 2008.
Those convicted included Harpreet Kaur, her father Avtar Singh and mother Sital Kaur. The court also imposed fine of Rs 2,000 on each convicts.
Inspector Parminder Singh Dhillon (40) had consumed some poisonous substance on August 4, 2008. He was posted with vigilance bureau at the time of his death.
Police had registered a case under Section 306 of the IPC against the three accused on the statement of his father Pritam Singh of Bhorla village near Samrala. The complainant had alleged that Parminder was harassed by his wife and in-laws.
Police said that Parminder, who was staying with his wife and in-laws in Phase XI, had an argument with his wife a day before his death. He went out and was later found lying near a railways platform on August 4 morning. Police had recovered his turban, socks and shoes lying a little distance away from the body apart from a broken beer bottle and empty packet of celphos tablets.
Dhillon had an inter-caste love marriage in 1995. His wife was a schoolteacher. Dhillon had remained SHO of Phase 11 police station before his stint with VB.
