Sym­po­sium on ar­chi­tec­ture held

CHANDIGARH: Em­i­nent pro­fes­sion­als from di­verse realms par­tic­i­pated in the sym­po­sium on ar­chi­tec­ture, sci­ence and art at the an­nual ora­tion-2012 at the PHD Cham­ber on Fri­day. The sym­po­sium was or­gan­ised by the First Fri­day Fo­rum, a lead­ing or­gan­i­sa­tion en­gaged in ed­u­ca­tional and so­cio-cul­tural projects in the Tric­ity.

Founder-cum-pres­i­dent of the fo­rum and ac­claimed lit­ter­a­teur scholar aca­demi­cian SS Bhatti, who was also the former prin­ci­pal of Chandigarh Col­lege of Ar­chi­tec­ture de­liv­ered the theme-based ora­tion ti­tled Ar­chi­tec­ture, Sci­ence, and Art.

Through il­lus­trated anal­y­sis sup­ported by apt his­tor­i­cal ex­am­ples he elu­ci­dated on how sci­ence and art cause and sup­port each other’s growth to en­able Ar­chi­tec­ture to re­alise it’s po­ten­tial as Civ­i­liza­tion’.

The chief guest for the event, RS Khand­pur, di­rec­tor gen­eral, Pushpa

Gu­jral Sci­ence City, Ka­purthala, re­ferred sci­ence city as ‘An Ar­chi­tect’s Par­adise’. He lauded Bhatti’s role in ed­u­cat­ing the cit­i­zenry about aes­thetic ap­pre­ci­a­tion vis-à-vis artis­tic cre­ation in the many forms of art. Ear­lier, Desh Ran­jan Sharma, artist, elab­o­rated on how art in­fuses vi­brant vi­tal­ity into sci­ence and ar­chi­tec­ture and gives ex­pres­sion to our in­nate urges for cel­e­brat­ing life.

Six pro­fes­sion­als were hon­oured with First Fri­day Fo­rum Awards for cre­ative ex­cel­lence and note­wor­thy con­tri­bu­tions in their re­spec­tive fields. Emo­tional hues seeped in as Rita Bhatti pre­sented Fo­rum’s newly in­sti­tuted Jas­pal Bhatti Me­mo­rial award to noted TV film ac­tor and di­rec­tor, Savita Bhatti.
