Two ar­rested with 8.5gm heroin

CHANDIGARH: The lo­cal po­lice ar­rested two peo­ple and re­cov­ered 8.5gm heroin from their pos­ses­sion in Chandigarh on Satur­day. The sus­pects have been iden­ti­fied as Ja­graj Singh (24) and Gur­sha­ran Singh (24), both res­i­dents of Moga district. Giv­ing de­tails, in-charge of Sec­tor 22 po­lice post sub-in­spec­tor Ram Rat­tan said the two were nabbed from a ‘naka’ laid near Sec­tor 21/22 di­vid­ing road.

Both are re­port­edly drug ad­dicts and were car­ry­ing the con­tra­band for self con­sump­tion.

Sub-in­spec­tor Ram Rat­tan said the sus­pects had come to the city in search of job and were look­ing for a room in Sec­tor 22 when they were ap­pre­hended. Both were pro­duced in the court and were sent in two-day po­lice re­mand.

The po­lice want to find out from where they were procur­ing the drugs. A case un­der Sec­tions 120-B of the In­dian Pe­nal Code (IPC) and Sec­tions 21 and 22 of the Nar­cotic Drugs and Psy­chotropic Sub­stances Act (NDPS) has been reg­is­tered in the Sec­tor 17 po­lice sta­tion.

This is sec­ond in­ci­dent in the past one week when po­lice have nabbed sus­pects car­ry­ing heroin. On De­cem­ber 25, po­lice ar­rested two young­sters - Aman­deep Singh (21), a res­i­dent of Sec­tor 9, Kharar, and Dal­bir Singh (20), a res­i­dent of Phase 1, SAS Na­gar, with 8gm heroin. Both of them were al­legedly ped­dling the drug.

Last week, heroin over­dose had claimed the life of a 19-yearold Government Col­lege for Girls, Sec­tor 11, stu­dent. The vic­tim, Rad­hika aka Tr­isha, a teenager hail­ing from Am­bala, was stay­ing at a paying guest ac­com­mo­da­tion in Sec­tor 15 and was pur­su­ing grad­u­ate course for the past one year. Fol­low­ing the in­ci­dent, two ac­cused -- Ga­gan­deep, a res­i­dent of Sec­tor 24, and Sourav of Am­rit­sar -- were ar­rested.
