Two arrested with 8.5gm heroin
CHANDIGARH: The local police arrested two people and recovered 8.5gm heroin from their possession in Chandigarh on Saturday. The suspects have been identified as Jagraj Singh (24) and Gursharan Singh (24), both residents of Moga district. Giving details, in-charge of Sector 22 police post sub-inspector Ram Rattan said the two were nabbed from a ‘naka’ laid near Sector 21/22 dividing road.
Both are reportedly drug addicts and were carrying the contraband for self consumption.
Sub-inspector Ram Rattan said the suspects had come to the city in search of job and were looking for a room in Sector 22 when they were apprehended. Both were produced in the court and were sent in two-day police remand.
The police want to find out from where they were procuring the drugs. A case under Sections 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 21 and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) has been registered in the Sector 17 police station.
This is second incident in the past one week when police have nabbed suspects carrying heroin. On December 25, police arrested two youngsters - Amandeep Singh (21), a resident of Sector 9, Kharar, and Dalbir Singh (20), a resident of Phase 1, SAS Nagar, with 8gm heroin. Both of them were allegedly peddling the drug.
Last week, heroin overdose had claimed the life of a 19-yearold Government College for Girls, Sector 11, student. The victim, Radhika aka Trisha, a teenager hailing from Ambala, was staying at a paying guest accommodation in Sector 15 and was pursuing graduate course for the past one year. Following the incident, two accused -- Gagandeep, a resident of Sector 24, and Sourav of Amritsar -- were arrested.
