Double delight for Rituparna
CHANDIGARH: Rituparna Das of West Bengal capped her successful run by clinching twin titles in the 22nd Smt Krishna Khaitan All-India Junior Ranking Badminton Championship at Panjab University on Saturday.
Das defeated Madhya Pradesh’s Shriyanshi Pardeshi, 21-9, 21-9, for the under-17 girls’ singles crown. In the under-19 singles final, Das again crossed swords with Pardeshi to emerge victorious, 21-6, 21-13.
In the boys’ under-17 final, Kaushal Dharmamer of Maharashtra was crowned champion after he got the better of Karnataka’s Daniel Farid S, 21-17, 21-12.
In the corresponding under-19 section, Arun George of Kerala ousted Shlok Ramchandran of Maharashtra, 23-21, 21-18.
In the doubles section, Sanyam Shukla of Chhattisgarh was the player of the day as he bagged three titles. His dream run started with the boys’ under-17 crown. Shukla teamed up with Saurabh Sharma of Haryana to defeat the pair of Vighnesh Devlekar (Maharashtra) and Gangadhara Rao V (Andhra Pradesh), 21-15, 16-21, 21-13, in the final. Shukla, along with Gopi Raju G of Air India, also annexed the under-19 title; the pair defeated Shyam Prasad (Kerala) and Shlok Ramchandran (Maharashtra), 21-19, 21-18.
The Chhattisgarh-lad then made it three-in-three by winning the under-19 mixed doubles trophy. He, along with Meghana J (Andhra Pradesh) beat Gopi Raju G (Air India) and Poorvisha S Ram (Karnataka), 21-13, 21-15.
In the under-17 girls’ doubles final, the Andhra Pradesh team comprising Sudha Kalyani D and Archana M ended the challenge of Sruthi KP and Farha Mather (both from Kerala), 21-18, 21-17.
In the corresponding under19 bracket, Meghana J (Andhra Pradesh) and Poorvisha S Ram (Karnataka) beat Agna Anto and Haritha MH (Kerala), 21-19, 21-14.
