The police registered a case on Sunday as the family of the victim was reluctant to lodge a complaint fearing social stigma. The incident took place on December 28.

The suspect used to take the victim to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), where she was undergoing treatment for two holes in her heart. He has been arrested and identified as Raju (25), a resident of Mauli Jagran. Raju was driver of the autorickshaw owned by the victim’s father.

According to police, the family of the victim was initially reluctant to lodge a complaint due to embarrassment, but they approached the police later after residents of the colony managed to convince her parents.

The father of the victim told police that her daughter was familiar with the suspect as his used to take her to PGIMER for her routine check-up.

In his complaint, he maintained that his daughter was playing outside their house when the accused made her accompany him on some pretext.

He took the child to a jungle in Sector 20 where he allegedly sexually abused her. The suspect later dropped her home and left.

The mother of the child spotted blood on her clothes and when she enquired, the girl did not speak for a few hours. However, later she narrated the entire incident to her mother.

The victim was taken to the Sector-6 Government Hospital for medical examination but had to wait for more than two hours due to non-availability of doctors. It was only after the matter was taken up with the civil surgeon of the hospital that the victim was examined.

Panchkula DCP Parul Jain also visited the hospital and assured the family of the victim that strict action will be taken against the culprit.
