Con­sta­ble ar­rested for eve-teas­ing

CHANDIGARH: A con­sta­ble of the Chandigarh Po­lice has been ar­rested for al­legedly teas­ing a girl, who had gone to the Sec­tor-29 traf­fic po­lice lines to get her chal­lan cleared.

The ac­cused has been iden­ti­fied as Jogin­der Pal Singh, while the vic­tim is pur­su­ing BCom from Post Grad­u­ate Government Col­lege, Sec­tor 46, po­lice said.

In her com­plaint to po­lice, the vic­tim said she was chal­laned for a traf­fic vi­o­la­tion on Thurs­day.

She went to the traf­fic lines on Satur­day to get the chal­lan cleared and when she was stand­ing in queue for her turn, the ac­cused ap­proached her and said he will get her chal­lan cleared. The con­sta­ble took cash and chal­lan re­ceipt and got her chal­lan cleared.

Jogin­der Pal Singh then handed over the vic­tim a slip on which he had writ­ten

his mo­bile phone num­ber. He al­legedly asked the girl to give a missed call on the num­ber writ­ten on the slip. When she re­fused, the con­sta­ble al­legedly passed lewd re­marks against her and tried to get phys­i­cal with her.

Af­ter the girl raised alarm, po­lice were in­formed and the ac­cused was ar­rested. A case un­der Sec­tions 294, 506 and 34 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code (IPC) has been reg­is­tered at the In­dus­trial Area po­lice sta­tion.
