Woman dies in mishap

PANCHKULA: A 55-year-old woman of Ghag­gar was killed in a road ac­ci­dent while her five-year-old grand­son suf­fered se­ri­ous in­juries in Panchkula on Sun­day. The ac­ci­dent took place at a toll plaza on Na­tional High­way 22.

The vic­tim, Kanta Devi, and her grand­son, Harman, were cross­ing the road when a rashly-driven car coming from the Panchkula side hit them, po­lice said.

The car driver took a U-turn and fled the spot. Rinku, a res­i­dent of Ghag­gar, who was present at the spot, gave a chase. Ac­cord­ing to Rinku, the driver first took the car to­wards old Panchkula from where he es­caped to­ward Zirakpur.

Kanta Devi was taken to Government Hospi­tal where she was de­clared brought dead while her grand­son was re­ferred to the Post Grad­u­ate In­sti­tute of Med­i­cal Ed­u­ca­tion and Re­search. The body has been kept in the hospi­tal mor­tu­ary and will be handed over to fam­ily af­ter post mortem.

A case un­der Sec­tion 304-A of the IPC has been reg­is­tered against the uniden­ti­fied driver.
