Woman dies in mishap
A CASE HAS BEEN REGISTERED AGAINST UNIDENTIFIED DRIVER WHO FLED THE SPOT
PANCHKULA: A 55-year-old woman of Ghaggar was killed in a road accident while her five-year-old grandson suffered serious injuries in Panchkula on Sunday. The accident took place at a toll plaza on National Highway 22.
The victim, Kanta Devi, and her grandson, Harman, were crossing the road when a rashly-driven car coming from the Panchkula side hit them, police said.
The car driver took a U-turn and fled the spot. Rinku, a resident of Ghaggar, who was present at the spot, gave a chase. According to Rinku, the driver first took the car towards old Panchkula from where he escaped toward Zirakpur.
Kanta Devi was taken to Government Hospital where she was declared brought dead while her grandson was referred to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research. The body has been kept in the hospital mortuary and will be handed over to family after post mortem.
A case under Section 304-A of the IPC has been registered against the unidentified driver.
