‘We are fighting a lonely battle’

-

KOTLA SHARF (GURDASPUR): Condolences poured in from all quarters when this Batala family lost its lone breadwinner in a Naxal attack in Chhattisgarh in March. But less than two months down the line, the family has been left to fight its battle alone.

At the house of slain CRPF inspector Jagjit Singh in Kotla Sharf, his mother Narinder Kaur, while sitting besides the martyr’s picture, says: “Mera putt bhot changah si’ (my son was a good soul).

Kaur wants a government job for her son’s widow Rashpal. “The government should give job to Jagjit’s wife and my grandson,” she adds.

“For 2-3 days, people paid tributes on Facebook and YouTube, but now no one bothered. Human memory is short, people easily forget others’ pain,” says Jagjit’s brother Daljeet Singh.
