- HT Correspondent

AMRITSAR: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Saturday started renovation of the internal portion of the ‘Darshani Deodi’ (entry gate of the sanctum sanctorum) at the Golden Temple here.

The portion is a hall, which adjoins historical Toshakhana, a treasury or secured storehouse for valuables. Akal Takht jathedar delivers his ‘sandesh’ (message to community) from here on the Bandi Chhod Diwas (Diwali).

Kar sewa (voluntary service) for the work has been assigned to Baba Kashmir Singh Bhuri Wale, who along with SGPC chief Kirpal Singh Badungar and head granthi Giani Jagtar Singh, inaugurated the work after performing ardas (prayer). The work will also include the art work under which its walls and ceilings would be decorated with beautiful designs. For this, artists will be hired, said Badungar while speaking to mediapersons.

He said, “Followers of every religion visit Sri Harmandar Sahib (Golden Temple) to pay obeisance. So, the SGPC makes efforts from time to time to preserve the original identity of the shrine and enhance its beauty with artistic work”. Renovation of the outer walls of the Darshani Deodi has already been finished and lasted over a year.
