Schools, colleges at Sirsa dera to reopen tomorrow after 25 days
SIRSA : After a gap of over three weeks, more than 6,000 students studying at various schools and colleges of the Dera Sacha Sauda here will resume their studies on Monday as the education department has decided to re-open these institutions with the return of normalcy in the area.
The educational institutes at the Dera Sacha Sauda headquarters and the old dera were shut down by the administration after curfew was imposed in the area on August 24, a day before the conviction of dera head Gurmeet Ram Rahim in the rape case.
Talking to HT, district education officer (DEO) Yagyadatt Verma confirmed that the dera schools and colleges will re-open on Monday after 25 days. .
The DEO added, “There are about 1,800 students in the girls’ senior secondary school, 1,600 in the boys senior secondary school, 400 in MSG International School (all on dera campus). Besides, there are 850 students at the boys’ college, 1,100 at the girls’ college and 50 students at the BED college in the dera.”
