VB NABBED 18 OFFICIALS IN BRIBERY CASES LAST MONTH
CHANDIGARH: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) caught 18 officials, including seven police personnel and 11 belonging to revenue and other departments, redhanded while they were accepting bribe in September.
A VB spokesperson said the bureau had submitted 12 challans in special courts in September. Apart from this, four vigilance enquiries were also registered to probe the corruption cases against public servants and five criminal cases have been registered after probe.
Giving details, the spokesperson said special courts decided four bribery cases. Deepak Khanna, a clerk posted at Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Hoshiarpur, was convicted and sentenced to two-year imprisonment with fine of ₹5,000 by the additional sessions judge, Hoshiarpur. Pawan Kumar, assistant engineer in the block development and panchayat officer (BDPO) office at Budladha in Mansa was awarded four-year imprisonment with fine of ₹50,000 by the additional sessions judge, Mansa.
Similarly, Tej Kumar Goyal, joint secretary, welfare department, was sentenced to three years in jail with fine of ₹12,000 by the additional sessions judge, Mohali, the spokesperson said.
