Asha workers protest for salary hike, court arrest
Karnal:continuing their protest for hike in monthly honorarium, hundreds of Asha (Accredited social health activist) workers on Tuesday courted arrest in Karnal and other places. The workers were protesting for the past 14 days in the city demanding a hike in monthly wages to ₹18,000 and regularisation of their services.
The protesters staged a protest outside the mini-secretariat, Karnal.
After the arrest the police officers took them in buses but they were released later.
District president of the Asha Workers’ Union Sudesh Rani said they are being forced to work at ₹1,000 per month and even they did not get the salary on time. She demanded that ASHA workers should be given the status of government employees and facilities equal to government employees.
The protesting Asha workers also got the support central trade unions.
