UNREASONABLE PARKING TAX IN PUNJAB

Hindustan Times (Chandigarh) - - REGION -

Apropos ‘Pay for parking vehicles outside houses in 10 cities of Punjab (HT Punjab, April 15), the decision if implemented will be blatant government extortion. Have not the residents already paid multiple taxes and levies on purchase and plying of vehicles or purchases of houses for living? Has the MC provided parking spaces in lieu? Authorities have already failed miserably in providing safe parking space at market/public places despite charging hefty parking fee (which in itself is unjustified). Now, such decisions and notifications signal that a day is not far when residents will be asked to pay tax for sleeping comfortably in their own houses. Such unreasonable and uncalled-for tax must be withdrawn immediately.

MPS Chadha, Mohali government on sports, there is visible improvement in performance and the country will soon be among top sporting nations. Two gold medals are special. Mary Kom, a mother of three, winning the boxing gold medal at the age of 35 is truly a unique feat. She defeated a young, energetic opponent in her 20s. She is rightly termed Magnificent Mary. Wonder boy Anish Bhanwala, in his teens, and at his first CWG appearance, struck gold. There were some who missed gold by a whisker. All medal winners will inspire others to achieve even more. The government must hone its sports policy even more to ensure even greater glory.
