Uddhav declines meeting with BJP minister
MUMBAI: Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray did not give an appointment to state finance minister and senior BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar for a meeting on Monday.
The BJP leader, who has been entrusted with the responsibility of negotiating with the Sena, had sought time to meet Thackeray at his residence in Bandra (East) on Monday evening.
Mungantiwar, however, denied Thackeray “refused” to meet him or that it was an meeting to discuss the alliance.
“It was not a scheduled meeting; whenever he gives time a meeting will be held. It is not about alliance but about the monsoon session,” he said. The finance minister also said that the BJP was not forcing an alliance on the Sena.
“The decision on an alliance will be made by both the parties. We have no intention on forcing an alliance on them. It is not our weakness,’’ said Mungantiwar.
On January 23, the Sena, in its national executive meeting, announced it will not enter into an alliance with the BJP for the 2019 Assembly and general elections.
