Police team attacked by villagers, 50 booked

KARNAL: A police team had to face the fury of people in Shadipur village of Yamunanaga­r district as they were attacked by the villagers, who illegally occupied plots meant for BPL families.

The police have booked about 50 people, including 25 by name, under Sections 186, 323, 353, 148 and 149 of IPC and relevant sections of Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.

Four cops sustained minor injuries in the attack.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Yamunanaga­r Sadar SHO Sunil Kumar said that following complaints by people that their plots were illegally occupied by some influentia­l people, a team of about ten cops reached the village to get the land vacated from them, but they were allegedly attacked by 50 people who forced the police to leave the village.

They also damaged the earth mover and several police vehicles.
