‘₹100 cr allocated for renovation of state govt schools’

AMRITSAR:STATE education minister Om Parkash Soni disclosed on Monday that ₹100 crore have been allocated for renovation of school buildings in Punjab.

Soni took stock of arrangemen­ts of the state-level function to be presided over by chief minister (CM) Captain Amarinder Singh on June 29. He said that apart from renovation, new rooms would also be constructe­d on the school premises, if need arises.

Sharing the details of the event to be held at Guru Nanak Stadium here, he said the CM would hand over appointmen­t letters to 2,500 newly-recruited school teachers of all subjects. “Of total, 75% teachers would be from border areas, while 25 from urban areas. All recruitmen­ts have been done on merit and pick and choose method was not adopted,” he said.

“Under the Punjab Tandrust Mission, the first period will be dedicated to sports in all schools to make the students physically and mentally healthy,” he said, adding, “We are making all efforts to improve infrastruc­ture and uplift standard of the education so that parents get their kids admitted in government schools.”

Deputy commission­er Kamaldeep Singh Sangha, police commission­er SS Srivastava, director general of school education Parshant Goyal and additional deputy commission­er (ADC) Ravinder Singh also accompanie­d him.
