GOVT POSTPONED JIND BYPOLL AS BJP FEARS DEFEAT: TANWAR

Hindustan Times (Chandigarh) - - HTPUNJAB&HARYANA -

CHANDIGARH : Haryana Congress president Ashok Tanwar on Saturday alleged that the BJP government in the state has deliberately got the Jind assembly byeelection postponed as it is fears its defeat.

Talking to mediaspersons, Tanwar said that since the Jind assembly seat had fallen vacant due to demise of INLD MLA Hari Chand Midha about two months ago, the government should have demanded bye-elections within six months as per rules, but it preferred not to do so.

He said the BJP government had written a letter to the Election Commission to postpone the bye-election and the latter accepted its demand. “It makes clear that like other constitutional institutions, the Election Commission, is also working according to the dictates of the BJP government,” Tanwar alleged. He added that a delegation of the state Congress would soon call on the EC to demand bye-election within six months.
