Four killed, 3 hurt in Bar­nala mishap

BAR­NALA : Four per­sons were killed and three were in­jured when a ve­hi­cle car­ry­ing a cater­ing party col­lided with a truck near the Me­hal Kalan toll plaza on the Bar­nala-raikot road in the dis­trict on Satur­day.

While three died on the spot, one suc­cumbed to in­juries when be­ing taken to the Ra­jin­dra Hospi­tal, Pa­tiala.

All of them were in the Tempo Trav­eller that was re­turn­ing from Sirsa in Haryana to Lud­hi­ana.

The de­ceased were iden­ti­fied as Sachin Ku­mar and Sawan Ku­mar of Ut­tar Pradesh, Pappu Singh of Jammu & Kash­mir and Ram Vi­las of Jhark­hand, po­lice said.

The in­jured are also un­der­go­ing treat­ment at Ra­jin­dra Hospi­tal.

Me­hal Kalan sta­tion house of­fi­cer (SHO) Par­gat Singh said, “Our pre­lim­i­nary in­ves­ti­ga­tions sug­gest that Tempo Trav­eller driver Parvin­der Singh was on the wrong side and it led to the ac­ci­dent. The truck driver fled from the spot.

A case was reg­is­tered against him un­der Sec­tions 279 (rash driv­ing or rid­ing on a pub­lic way), 304-A (Caus­ing death by neg­li­gence) and 337 (Caus­ing hurt by act en­dan­ger­ing life or per­sonal safety of oth­ers) of the In­dian Pe­nal Code, the SHO said.
