Four killed, 3 hurt in Barnala mishap
BARNALA : Four persons were killed and three were injured when a vehicle carrying a catering party collided with a truck near the Mehal Kalan toll plaza on the Barnala-raikot road in the district on Saturday.
While three died on the spot, one succumbed to injuries when being taken to the Rajindra Hospital, Patiala.
All of them were in the Tempo Traveller that was returning from Sirsa in Haryana to Ludhiana.
The deceased were identified as Sachin Kumar and Sawan Kumar of Uttar Pradesh, Pappu Singh of Jammu & Kashmir and Ram Vilas of Jharkhand, police said.
The injured are also undergoing treatment at Rajindra Hospital.
Mehal Kalan station house officer (SHO) Pargat Singh said, “Our preliminary investigations suggest that Tempo Traveller driver Parvinder Singh was on the wrong side and it led to the accident. The truck driver fled from the spot.
A case was registered against him under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 304-A (Causing death by negligence) and 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code, the SHO said.
