Fight against drugs: Pun­jab Po­lice to launch drive against POS

CHANDI­GARH : Pun­jab po­lice will launch a drive against pro­claimed of­fend­ers (POS) of drug cases, in­clud­ing those who had fled the coun­try. The de­ci­sion was taken on Satur­day at a high­level joint meet­ing of the an­tidrug spe­cial task force (STF), the in­tel­li­gence wing and the Bu­reau of In­ves­ti­ga­tion (BOI). DGP Suresh Arora chaired the meet­ing.

The meet­ing, which fo­cused on syn­er­gis­ing the ef­forts of the dis­trict po­lice, the in­tel­li­gence wing and the STF, dis­cussed that drug traf­fick­ers from whom heavy re­cov­er­ies had been ef­fected could be placed un­der pre­ven­tive de­ten­tion. The meet­ing was in­formed that a list of such traf­fick­ers is in the process of be­ing pre­pared.

Di­rec­tions were also given to ex­pe­dite cases re­lated to the seizure/freez­ing of prop­erty that drug smug­glers have ac­quired through il­le­gal means. It was also pro­posed to hold a joint meet­ing on a weekly ba­sis .
