LUDHIANA: Three per­sons were booked for al­legedly open­ing fire at the ve­hi­cle of Shi­ro­mani Akali Dal (Am­rit­sar) district pres­i­dent Jaswant Singh Cheema, 50, near Ja­land­har by­pass here, Ludhiana po­lice said on Satur­day.

Cheema was re­turn­ing from Bhat­tian vil­lage in his Toy­ota In­nova when the in­ci­dent took place, po­lice added. Cheema told the po­lice that two bike-borne as­sailants first opened fire at his car and the bul­let hit its rear door. “The ac­cused also hit the car with a base­ball bat,” he added.

The po­lice have reg­is­tered a case against Jag­jeet Singh Bedi, his brother Ran­jeet Singh Bedi and Vi­pan Ku­mar un­der Sec­tions 338, 506 and 427 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code. The ac­cused are prop­erty deal­ers.

VIC­TIMS’ KIN STILL AWAIT JOBS
