J&K EMPLOYEE BOOKED FOR SPREADING ‘PROPAGANDA’

SRINAGAR: Police on Friday booked a government employee for spreading ‘false propaganda’ against the government and ‘creating a fake narrative’.

The accused, Tahir Nazir Shalla, who was employed at the education department (higher education), was booked for violating the social media policy for government employees, a police spokespers­on said.

“Shalla was running an antination­al campaign on social media and tried to create an untrue and fake narrative,” the spokespers­on said.

“The accused was circulatin­g seditious and provocativ­e posts through his social media accounts, which was highly prejudicia­l to maintenanc­e of law and order,’’ the police said.

“Investigat­ions are on to identify other persons involved in similar anti-state campaigns on social media and spreading false propaganda,’’ police said.

The accused was booked under sections of the IT Act.
