HC notice to Haryana on ban by Sonepat admn

CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court has put the Haryana government on notice on a plea challenging the move of Sonepat administration banning social media news portals and Youtube channels.

The high court bench of Justice HS Madaan acted on the plea of one Ankit Nain, a local, who had sought directions to quash a June 16 order issued by the deputy commissioner and chairman, district disaster management authority, claiming that it violated the fundamental rights.

The ban order was passed citing moral and mental health of the general public in view of Covid-19 outbreak to control the spread of information by social media channels, which are not registered with the competent authority.

The response has been sought by August 14.
