CHANDIGARH : Two days after Punjab rural development and panchayats minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa tested positive for Covid-19, his wife and son were also found infected with the virus on Thursday.

While the 77-year-old minister’s son Ravinandan Singh is asymptomatic, his wife Rattneshwar Kaur developed fever after which she was shifted to Fortis Hospital, Mohali, where Bajwa is was also admitted.

“The samples of Bajwa’s wife and son were taken on Wednesday. But the minister’s staff and other family members were found negative,” Punjab Covid-19 nodal officer Dr Rajesh Bhaskar said.

“Everything is fine. As my wife is also admitted to the same hospital, I will accompany her till she recovers. Her tests, including that of oxygen levels, have come normal,” Bajwa said on phone.

The minister chaired a meeting of the rural development department on July 9 when he came in contact with department director Vipul Ujjwal, who tested positive a day after.

The health department took samples of 49 persons, including senior IAS officers who came in contacts with Bajwa and the PCS officers tested positive earlier.
