UK halts extradition, arms sales with HK
LONDON: Britain suspended its extradition treaty and blocked arms sales with Hong Kong on Monday, after China imposed a tough new national security law.
London’s action follows last week’s ban on Chinese company Huawei, high-profile expression of concern over suppression of Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang and previous offer of a path to UK citizenship to Hong Kong citizens holding the British National (Overseas) passports.
“The government has decided to suspend the extradition treaty immediately and indefinitely,” foreign secretary Dominic Raab told the House of Commons.
