120 new cases surface in HP

SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh reported 120 fresh Covid-19 cases on Friday, taking the tally to 1,954 cases. It took the state 126 days to cross the 1,900 mark.

There are at present 781 active cases in the state. This is the steepest single-day spike in coronaviru­s cases in the state till date.

As many as 38 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported from Solan district, while 26 Covid-19 cases were reported in Mandi. As many as 29 fresh Covid-19 cases were reported in Sirmaur district.

As many as 15 people tested positive in Kangra district, of which four were army personnel; three people including a police personnel tested positive in Shimla; two cases each were reported in Kinnaur and Kullu district and one case each was reported in Una and Bilaspur districts.

A 25-year-old army personnel, a resident of Norbulingk­a, Dharamsala with travel history to Leh tested positive and has been shifted to the Military Hospital, Yol. A 22-year-old army personnel, is a resident of village Mandher in Baijnath, who had travelled from Leh on July 18 also tested positive. He has been shifted to the Military Hospital, Palampur.

Bilaspur superinten­dent of police (SP) Divakar Sharma said, “A 25-year-old police personnel, a resident of Kullu, tested positive in Swarghat, Bilaspur. All personnel at Swarghat police station have been quarantine­d and will be tested for Covid-19.”

52-YR-OLD KIDNEY PATIENT SUCCUMBS

A 52-year-old man died of Covid-19 in Himachal Pradesh on Thursday night, taking the state’s coronaviru­s toll to 11.

The patient was a resident of Amb village in Jawalamukh­i and died in Kangra. So far, three people have died due to Covid-19 in Kangra district.

The man had kidney and liver ailments for which he was undergoing treatment at Post Graduate Institute of Medical Research and Education (PGIMER), Chandi

garh, from where he was discharged on July 22.

LOCKDOWN IN NAHAN, DADAHU AFTER SPIKE

Amid spike in cases in Mohalla Govindgarh in Nahan and Dadahu town of Sirmaur district, the adminsitra­tion has ordered lockdown in both the areas from 9pm on July 24 till 9am on July 27. Mohalla Govindgarh in Nahan has been declared as a containmen­t zone.

Deputy commission­er RK Purthi said all shops except those selling essential goods in Nahan and Dadahu will remain closed from 7am to 9am. The DC has ordered
