Haryana tally mounts to 33,631 with 755 new cases

Seven succumb; 5.82 lakh samples sent for testing

CHANDIGARH: Seven patients lost their lives to Covid-19 on Wednesday in Haryana and the state reported 755 new infections, taking the cumulative number of positive cases to 33,631.

According to the health bulletin, two patients each died in Panipat and Faridabad districts, while one person each succumbed in Sonepat, Rohtak and Gurugram.

In Haryana, as many as 413 people have died of Covid-19 till date.

The doubling rate of cases improved to 24 on Wednesday and till the evening, Haryana had sent over 5.82 lakh samples for testing.

There were 6,798 active cases in the state, while 662 patients got recovered/discharged in the last 24 hours.

Faridabad continued to report the highest number of cases as the district saw 198 fresh infections followed by Gurugram where 91 people were tested positive.

Other districts where new cases were recorded included Sonepat (26), Rohtak (35), Bhiwani (4), Rewari (32), Karnal (35), Ambala (75), Jhajjar (2), Palwal (17), Mahenderga­rh (10), Hisar (14), Panipat (38), Nuh and Kurukshetr­a (13 each), Sirsa (21), Jind (43), Fatehabad (18), Panchkula (46), Yamunanaga­r (14), Kaithal (7), and Charkhi Dadri (3).

Meanwhile, Niti Aayog on Wednesday in a Tweet said that Haryana has emerged as one of the strong performers among the states in India with respect to the management of the coronaviru­s pandemic.

KARNAL, PANIPAT BREACH 1,000 MARK

With 36 new cases of Covid-19, Karnal crossed the 1,000 mark on Wednesday. The number of infected persons had increased to 1,001 while there were 343 active cases as 648 patients had been cured.

In Panipat, chief medical officer Sant Lal Verma said, 37 new cases had emerged on Wednesday, taking the district tally to 1,026. He said the new patient also included a 38-year-old man from Ramesh Nagar, who had died on Tuesday.

CHALLAN PEOPLE SANS MASKS: KHATTAR

Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, while presiding over the disaster management committee meeting, directed the police to challan on the spot people who are found without masks and give such offenders at least five masks during the ‘Unlock 3’.

He has also directed to set up nine new Covid-19 testing labs in next 10 days in the state, an official spokespers­on said.

One new lab will be opened in four district government hospitals and five medical colleges. Khattar has asked to provide free ambulance services to patients who have recovered from Covid-19 when they return for retesting.

Additional chief secretary, health, Rajeev Arora apprised the CM that the average Covid-19 positivity rate in the state was 5.82%, while the national average was 8.56%. He said the fatality rate stood at 1.23% against the national figure of 2.26%.

The CM also directed that during the festivals of Rakshaband­han and Eid, only 35 passengers should travel in a bus.

He called for strict action against the owners of banquet halls found violating social distancing norms. For the first-time violator, ₹1 lakh fine will be imposed, while ₹3 lakh will be charged for the second violation. ₹5-lakh fine would be imposed for more than two violations. Repeated violations can result in cancellati­on of the licence.
