Recovery rate shoots up in J&K

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday recorded nine deaths and 559 fresh Covid-19 infections, taking the total number of positive cases in the Union territory to 22,955, officials said.

Of the new cases, 463 are from Kashmir and 96 from Jammu division. Among these, 90 patients have a travel history. Officials said nine more people have succumbed to the disease – eight in Kashmir and one in Jammu. With this, the death toll in the UT has risen to 426. As many as 395 fatalities have been reported in Kashmir and 31 in Jammu division till date.

The recovery rate soared to 66.4%, the highest so far, after 388 more people recovered and were discharged, taking the overall recoveries to 15,244. Active cases in the UT stand at 7,285. A government spokespers­on said 91 people were discharged in Jammu division and 297 in Kashmir. Of the total, 11,980 were cured in Kashmir and 3,264 in Jammu division.

The highest single day spike of 17 deaths, since the Covid-19 outbreak, was recorded on July 30. The death toll had crossed 300 mark on July 25, 122 days after the first fatality was reported on March 26. As many as 276 persons died in July alone.

In Kashmir, the highest jump in cases was witnessed in Srinagar where 160 more people tested positive followed by Pulwama at 105 and Bandipora at 44. In Jammu division, the highest number of 61 cases was reported in Jammu district and 12 in Udhampur district.
