₹4.12 CRORE FINE IMPOSED FOR EVADING TAX IN JULY
CHANDIGARH: The enforcement wing of the Punjab taxation department has imposed penalty of Rs 4.12 crore on 310 defaulters for evading tax payments in July. A department spokesperson said they imposed a penalty of ₹1.76 crore on vehicles carrying iron scrap, ₹1.12 crore on vehicles carrying iron and steel finished goods, ₹65 lakh on retailers, ₹15.5 lakh on vehicles carrying aluminum and copper scrap, ₹7.5 lakh on vehicles carrying cigarette and tobacco products and ₹34.81 lakh on vehicles carrying miscellaneous items during the month. In terms of commodity wise distribution, iron scrap accounted for 42% of total fine.
