480 people test positive in J&K, 11 deaths push UT’S toll to 520

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) recorded 480 fresh Covid-19 cases on Friday, taking the Union territory’s tally to 27,489. Eleven people succumbed to the infection, taking the death toll to 520.

Of the total 480 cases, 408 were found in Kashmir and 72 in Jammu. Srinagar reported 120 cases, the highest in the UT, taking the number of infections in the district to 6,680. There are 1,878 active cases in the district. Srinagar also witnessed six fresh deaths taking the death toll to 169.

North Kashmir’s Baramulla district reported 47 fresh Covid-19 cases, followed by Jammu district with 41 infections.

Meanwhile, 640 persons recovered and were discharged from different hospitals. Around 255 people recovered in Srinagar and 61 in Jammu district.

The recovery rate in the UT has crossed 71.6%, taking the overall recoveries to 19,942. Active cases in the UT stand at 7,027.

Till date, 4.94 lakh people have been enlisted for observatio­n — 41,737 in home quarantine, 7,027 in isolation, and 47,531 under home surveillan­ce. Around 3.08 lakh people have completed their surveillan­ce period. So far, 7,75,333 tests have been performed in the UT.

The district administra­tion is planning to open Srinagar and other districts of the Valley from Monday.
