RECOVERY RATE IN J&K CROSSES 73.7%, TALLY NOW 28,892

SRINAGAR:JAMMU and Kashmir (J&K) recorded six deaths and 422 fresh infections on Monday, taking the UT’S Covid-19 tally to 28,892

The recovery rate in the UT crossed 73.7%, the highest so far, after 353 more people were cured and discharged from different hospitals, taking the overall recoveries to 21,296. A government spokespers­on said 89 people were discharged in Jammu division and 264 in Kashmir. Of the total, 16,465 were cured in Kashmir and 4,831 in Jammu division. There are, at present, 7,048 active cases in J&K.

As many as 341 people tested positive in Kashmir, including 23 travellers, while 81 cases were reported from Jammu, of which 32 were travellers.

Officials said six people succumbed to the disease, all of them in Kashmir, taking the Valley’s death toll to 507. The first death was reported on March 26 in Kashmir.

The UT’S death toll has mounted to 548. As many as 41 fatalities have been reported in Jammu division till date.

The highest single day spike of 17 deaths, since the pandemic spread, was recorded on July 30. The death toll crossed the 300 mark on July 25. As many as 276 persons have died in July alone.

In Kashmir, the highest jump in fresh cases was witnessed in Bandipora where 49 more people tested positive followed by Srinagar (48), and Kupwara (46).In Jammu division, the highest number of cases, 40, were reported in Jammu district.

Srinagar is the worst affected district with 6,960 cases and 174 deaths. There are 1,635 active cases in the district.

Religious places had also opened in the Valley on Sunday after staying closed for around five months.
