Home isolation helps up voluntary testing

AMRITSAR:MORE people are volunteering for Covid-19 test after the state government allowed home isolation for positive patients, health officials said.

Anurag Aggarwal, the nodal officer for Covid in Amritsar, during a meeting with senior medical officers and health staffers, said, “People were reluctant to get themselves tested for Covid as they feared hospitalisation. Also, people thought that their families will be harassed and isolated at a government centre, if they are found positive.

The situation, however, changed after the government allowed home isolation for asymptomatic patients or those with mild symptoms.”

Assistant civil surgeon Dr Amarjeet Singh said, “Around 868 patients have been isolated at their homes in Amritsar. Also, the health department has launched mobile vans in the district to collect swab samples at the doorstep which also helped. We have also started testing restaurant/hotel staff, vegetable vendors, ASHA workers and others who come in direct contact with people on a daily basis,” he said.
