The many shades of Lord Ganesha
‘We’ Group of artists launches an online exhibition of the images of Ganesha to spread positivity amid the pandemic
The image of Lord Ganesha is one of the most endearing features of Indian iconography with playful depiction of the elephant-headed god. Interestingly, images of the ‘Param Pujya’ lord have enjoyed a prominent place in the contemporary Indian art as there are many takers for it.
The reason for this continuous fascination for the “most painted icon” of the Hindu mythology is that he is considered as the one who removes all obstacles. Any major enterprise is started with the chant of ‘Shree Ganesha’ and he is also worshipped as the patron lord of intellectuals.
Sadhna Sanghar, founder of ‘We’ Group, says, “We organised this show because Lord Ganesha is considered the harbinger of positivity and in times of Covid-19, we all need some positive vibes. May he remove all obstacles from our lives.” The show features works of 45 artists — 30 invitees and 15 child artists from across country. Opening of the show was marked by lighting of the ceremonial lamp by CCPCR chairperson Harjinder Kaur, at the home of artist Bharati Sharma in the presence of 5 artists including painter Prem Singh.
