MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR BREAK Internship and work offers are pouring in, so get into working mode instead of lazing around, make some money, gain some work experience and have a blast while you’re at it
It’s that time of the year again, when college students, both undergraduates and post-graduates are out there in search of work or internship opportunities to get a taste of what corporate life is all about.
IT firms are always in search of young talent. Most IT firms and computing industry giants offer internship opportunities. This year, however, the boom in the e-commerce sector has also led to an upsurge of openings for interns.
While getting hands-on experience along with academics does add value to your CV, but who can resist the cherry on the cake: the stipend that some of these companies offer to the interns? And then, even top companies cannot deny that young talent is always welcome at the workplace during this time of the year.
“Interns keep an organisation young. They infuse daring ideas into an organisation and also give senior managers an insight into the thinking of today’s youth,” says Shamita Ghosh, lead manager, talent acquisition, BookMyShow. So, here are some companies in search of enthusiastic young students like you. Gone are the days when you had to rush to the theatre at least three hours before the show, to be able to get a ticket to watch your favourite show. Online ticketing companies are the new buzz among youngsters now. “We look for fresh talent that’s passionate about creating a superior user experience for our consumers. New age technology, user interface/user experience (UI/ UX) design and creative content are areas of interest to the company. In addition, our on-ground ticketing operations attract a lot of interns,” says Shamita Ghosh, lead manager, talent acquisition, BookMyShow. Internships are mostly paid. United Nations Development Programme ( UNDP) offers internship opportunities during March and in October every year, to students enrolled in master’s or PhD programmes. The duration varies from six weeks to six months.
