NEW DELHI: Diamond jewellery worth `3 crore and `60,000 in cash were stolen from a house in south Delhi’s Anand Lok on Sunday.

Police said the house belongs to Avneet Singh Bedi, daughter of Jet Airways vice-president, and her husband Tanmay Seth, a businessman.

They said the burglars broke into the house between 10 pm and 3:45 am when the couple were away.

They returned home around 4 am and found the house ransacked. They called the police after which an FIRwas registered.

“The house servant was reportedly sleeping inside his quarter and said he did not hear the burglars breaking in. He was woken up by the couple,” a senior police officer said.

“The burglars opened drawers and almirahs and made way with the diamond jewellery in the locker and cash,” the officer said.

“The incident took place when we were at a wedding on Sunday night. The locality is considered safe and no such incident has taken place in the past. It’s shocking,” Tanmay Seth told HT.

Seth said they do not suspect the servant. “The house staff was at home when we returned. They couldn’t be involved. In fact, they helped us inform the police.”

The police have taken CCTV footage from the area and are trying to identify the burglars. The police asked the local security guards to record their statement.

“The men must have broken into the house from the back gate. We have asked the couple to give us details of their staff both current and former. We are questioning the guards in the area. Some of them said that they saw some suspicious people moving about in the night but could not see their faces. We are scanning CCTV footage from the area. The case will be cracked soon,” an investigator said.
