JNU’s gen­der panel polls on Septem­ber 22

JNU reg­is­trar Pramod Ku­mar in a re­cent com­mu­ni­ca­tion said that the univer­sity will con­sti­tute in­ter­nal com­plaints com­mit­tee, which will re­place the GSCASH to com­ply with UGC reg­u­la­tions 2015. “…any elec­tion to GSCASH here­after called as ICC should be kept on hold till fur­ther no­tice,” he said.

How­ever, on Satur­day, Bha­gat Singh Saini, chair­per­son GSCASH elec­tion com­mit­tee, is­sued code of con­duct and said the polls will be held on Fri­day.

“We have re­ceived a let­ter from the of­fi­ci­at­ing chair­per­son Moushumi Das in which fourmem­ber elec­tion com­mis­sion has been con­sti­tuted to ini­ti­ate and su­per­vise the GSCASH elec­tion. We are con­duct­ing the elec­tions based on the let­ter,” said Ishita Manna, an EC mem­ber.

Das said they have not re­ceived any com­mu­ni­ca­tion from the administration to put the GSCASH elec­tion on hold. “Even as per the con­sti­tu­tion of GSCASH, the administration has no role in the func­tion­ing of the body,” she said.

Ku­mar was not reach­able. JNU’s Ex­ec­u­tive Coun­cil will meet on Septem­ber 18 to as­sess a re­port sub­mit­ted by a com­mit­tee on the func­tion­ing of GSCASH and the pro­posal to re­place it with ICC. HTC
