LOSS TO STATE EXCHEQUER

Hindustan Times (Delhi) - - HTMETRO -

The Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has acquired 12,000 hectares of agricultural land along the Yamuna Expressway which connects Greater Noida with Agra

However, most of this land is still in the possession of the farmers who are demanding a higher compensation for their land

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had ordered an audit to find anomalies in land acquisition and establish if the acquired land is with the government or had been grabbed by the land mafia State industries minister had also asked the authority to check how much land was available with it

An audit by YEIDA found that some officials, including Tehsildars, Lekhpals and clerks helped officials to buy the already acquired land from the farmers, causing loss to the state exchequer

YEIDA, which had been given the December 21 deadline for completing the audit, now says that it will finish checking records by next month and submit a detailed report
