Tanzanian arrested with heroin
NEWDELHI: The Narcotics Control Bureau(ncb) on Wednesday caught a 31-year-old Tanzanian citizen who was smuggling around 4.8 kilogram of heroin. NCB’S Delhi zonal director Madho Singh said they received information about the man who was arriving from Mumbai at the IGI airport.
Singh said during surveil- lance Brayton Nicholaus Lyimo was spotted at the arrival Hall of Terminal 1.
Officer Singh said Lyimo was carrying two bags. “During checking, an off white powdery substance, believed to be heroin (4.8Kg) was found packed in brown colour envelopes covered and concealed in bed sheets and kept in his registered trolley bag,” said Singh.
Police said Lyimo confessed during interrogation that he had come from Addia Ababa and landed at the Mumbai airport on Monday. NCB officials said the man confessed he was handed the contraband in Tanzania and had to hand to a Nigerian man in Delhi.
NCB officials said this is Lyimo’s second visit to the country in two months. Zonal Director Singh said Lyimo had come to India on a tourist visa. Lyimo, officials said, run a garments business in Tanzania.
