Akali exminister Sucha Singh faces rape charges
CHANDIGARH: A local court on Wednesday framed charges against former Shiromani Akali Dal minister Sucha Singh Langah booked in September last year for allegedly raping a Punjab Police woman constable. The complainant also submitted a video in which Langah was seen in a compromising position with her.
On Wednesday, Langah was brought on production warrant from Nabha jail to the court of Gurdaspur additional district and sessions judge Prem Kumar Garg. Defence counsel SS Basra pleaded for another date for framing charges but it was rejected. The court fixed February 28 as the next day of hearing.
Langah was recently admitted to Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, after complaining of high sugar level. He failed to appear in court a couple of times even through videoconferencing. He was booked under Sections 376 (rape), 384 (extortion), 420 (cheating) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of IPC on September 29 last year. On October 6, on complaint of some Sikh organisations, Section 295-A (hurting religious sentiments) was also added to the FIR.
