Story of a girl who transitions into a strong woman

Hindustan Times (Gurgaon) - City - - Relationship - Lakshana Palat

Invisible Ties by Nadya AR, is the story of a reticent Pakistani girl Noor, living in the shadow of her parents. After she is guilt-tripped by her mother into a marriage with Meekal, she has to face constant marital pressure. However, as the story progresses, Noor transforms into a strong woman, who finally decides to live on her terms. The story transitions through several international metropolises— Karachi, Malaysia, London, and Singapore. Nadya explores a world and culture that is not usually depicted in writing in English. The book engages with complex themes like the conflict between tradition and modernity, vacuous marriages, and complicated friendships in a foreign land. However, the denouement of the interlinked plots seems hasty at times. There is an evident lack of complexity to the characters, which could often make it difficult for the reader to relate to them.
