INTERPOL DENIES ED PLEA AGAINST LALIT MODI

- Rajesh.ahuja@hindustantimes.com

NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has received a setback in securing an arrest warrant issued by the Interpol against former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi in connection with a money laundering probe.

In a surprise move, Interpol, the international police organisation that issues arrest warrants, called Red Corner Notices (RCN) against any international fugitive on the request of a member country, has decided not to issue one against Modi.

ED is surprised that non-availability of a charge sheet has been cited as a reason for not notifying the RCN against Modi, a ground hat rarely has a precedent in Interpol operations when it comes to issuing RCNs.
