NEW DELHI: The police arrested a rickshaw puller on Monday from Noida for strangulating a woman to death in east Delhi’s New Ashok Nagar on Sunday.

After murdering the 37-yearold woman, the accused, Qayum alias Kalim, who was her neighbour, fled with her mobile phone. He was tracked down with the help of the last location of the woman’s cell phone, said police. Qayum is a native of Saharsa in Bihar.

During interrogation, Qayum revealed that he was in a relationship with the woman, a labourer, for the past few months.

When Qayum learnt that she was cheating on him, he threatened her with dire consequences if she continued meeting the other man. The two often had arguments over this issue, said the officer.

On Sunday night, the woman refused to move in with Qayum, after which they had an argument. “Following this, he slept with her, strangulated her with her dupatta, took her mobile and fled,” said a senior police officer.
