NEWDELHI:The Delhi Police Crime Branch on Sunday arrested a person for allegedly abducting a businessman at gunpoint and robbing ₹10 lakh from him in Aman Vihar. The incident was reported on December 10, 2016.

Rahul Gahlot, 27, was arrested from Dwarka Sector 14, after he had been on the run for the past three months. Earlier three policemen, who were also involved in the robbery, were also arrested.

On December 10, Pardeep Kumar Jain, who owns a grocery shop in Krishna Nagar, was on his way to deliver some cash to his friend’s nephew, Aman, when some persons standing with Aman allegedly kidnapped him in their Wagon-R Car and blackmailed him to take him to the police station as he had so much unaccounted new currency post-demonetisation.

“They also threatened that if he wants to avert arrest he will have to pay them ₹25 lakh. When he refused to give the money, the accused threatened him with a pistol. Fearing death, the businessman gave ₹10 lakh to the men after which they fled. Later, Jain reported the matter to the police,” DCP crime branch, Madhur Verma, said.

On Sunday, the police received information that Gahlot would meet someone near National Law University in Dwarka. A trap was laid and Gahlot was apprehended.

During questioning, Gahlot told police that one Vijay, a Delhi police constable, who used to visit his gym had told him to accompany him on December 10 for some work. “Gahlot agreed and left for Anand Vihar in Vijay’s car. On the way, they were joined by Vinod and Parvinder, both Delhi police officials. They all reached Anand Vihar where Parvinder’s brother-inlaw Pankaj and his friend Akram met them. Pankaj showed them the Jain, and they robbed him at gun point. The three policemen were arrested after the registration of the case,” Verma said.
