Fill NGT va­can­cies ex­pe­di­tiously: HC

NEWDELHI:The Delhi high court on Thurs­day asked the Cen­tre to ex­pe­dite the process of ap­point­ing ju­di­cial and ex­pert mem­bers in the Na­tional Green Tri­bunal.

Fol­low­ing the court’s re­mark, the Cen­tre’s coun­sel said steps have been taken to fill the va­cant posts of ju­di­cial and ex­pert mem­bers in the NGT and as­sured that it would be done ex­pe­di­tiously.

The court was hear­ing a pe­ti­tion filed by lawyer Gau­rav Ku­mar Bansal, seek­ing fill­ing up of va­can­cies in the NGT.

The Cen­tre’s stand­ing coun­sel said the min­istry of en­vi­ron­ment and for­est has given two ad­ver­tise­ments invit­ing ap­pli­ca­tions for five posts of ju­di­cial mem­bers and seven posts of ex­pert mem­bers and the last date of re­ceiv­ing ap­pli­ca­tions is Septem­ber 18.

The pe­ti­tioner, how­ever, said if the ap­point­ments are not made at the ear­li­est, then after De­cem­ber 9, the NGT will have only two ju­di­cial mem­bers as against 10 mem­bers pro­vided un­der the law.
