Irish musician returns Dublin honour, saying he can’t hold the award along with Myanmar state counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi

Geldof, recognised with the “Freedom of the City of Dublin” award, said: “I am a very proud Dubliner but cannot in all conscience continue to be one of the honoured few to have received this great tribute whilst Suu Kyi remains amongst that number

“Her association with our city shames us all and we should have no truck with it, even by default. We honoured her, now she appals and shames us,” he said, linking the issue with the Rohingya crisis

The plight of the Rohingya has provoked outrage around the world and there have been calls for Suu Kyi to be stripped of the Nobel Peace Prize she won in 1991.
