Legendary Belgian jazz harmonica player dies at 94 Jean-Baptiste Frederic Isidore Thielemans, known affectionately as “Toots”, died in his sleep in a Brussels hospital early on Monday after a 70-year career as the world’s top harmonica player 2 Thielemans made music with some of the biggest names in jazz, such as Charlie Parker, Ella Fitzgerald and Miles Davis, as well as with mainstream stars like Frank Sinatra, Paul Simon and Billy Joel 3 His solos figure on the music of films like “Midnight Cowboy” and “The Getaway” and even children’s series “Sesame Street.” He was honoured with the title of baron by Belgium’s royal family in 2001.
