Showroom owner robbed of `24 lakh in Amritsar

THREE MEN ATTACK TRADER AND HIS CASHIER WITH SHARP-EDGED WEAPONS ON BUSY COURT ROAD, FLEE WITH CASH BAG

AMRITSAR: On a day when deputy chief minister was to visit the city and security was at a high, unidentified miscreants robbed the owner of an automobile showroom and his cashier of `24 lakh near Kitchlew Chowk here on Monday.

The robbers attacked the victim duo with sharp-edged weapons, injuring them seriously. They are under treatment at a hospital.

The incident took place in a narrow street on the Court Road when the trader, Ashwani Sharma, and his cashier Lovejeet Singh were walking to a nearby bank to deposit the cash.

As they were crossing the road, the robbers, apparently three, pounced on them and dragged them inside a street. The accused hit them with sharp-edged weapons and fled with the bag containing the money on a motorcycle.

Though the police also found a country-made pistol from the crime spot, firing didn’t take place, it is learnt.

Civil Lines SHO inspector Arun Sharma said, “The victims have suffered cuts on neck and back. Both are under treatment.”

He said they were scanning the CCTV footage of a camera installed near the crime scene. The accused rode through the Mall Road after committing the crime, said the SHO. Police said intervention of some passersby and area residents saved the victims. A case has been registered against the unidentified robbers.

The SHO said, “They (victims) have not told us about the exact loss, but records show they were to deposit about `24 lakh in the bank.”
