LPU student, lyricist among 11 held with 19,000 drug capsules

JALANDHAR: The Rural Police arrested 11 people for drug peddling in four separate cases in the district on Wednesday and recovered 18,350 intoxicant capsules and tablets, 135-gm drug powder, 150-gm heroin, three cars, one bike and one pistol and two cartridges.

The accused include LPU student Rajan Masih, 25, of Jalandhar’s Karan Enclave and lyricist Jaswinder Singh Billa, 36, of Kolgrah in Nawanshahr. They were nabbed together. Masih is studying MA (English) and Billa has written the song, ‘Saade baare dil vich rakhi na bhulekhaa’ for Punjabi singer Jazzy B. SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar added that Billa had also written songs for Manmohan Waris.

“The head of Crime Investigat­ion Agency (CIA-1), inspector Harinder Singh, and his team nabbed Kiranjeet Singh, Jaswinder, and Rajan and recovered 100-gm intoxicant powder, one pistol, two cartridges and 30gm heroin,” the SSP added.

The other accused have been identified as Kiranjeet Singh (26) of Garhshanka­r, Rajinder Rana, 30, Rakesh Rocky, 26, of Bullowal in Hoshiarpur, Gursharan Singh, 19, of Valtoha, Sukhjinder Singh, 25, of Udhoke in Tarn Taran, Mukesh Sharma, 37, of Una in Himachal Pradesh, Mohammad Ali, 32, of Bhogpur, Jummadin, 29, of Dhaliwal and Sukhvir Singh, 35, a kabaddi player, of Kapurthala’s Subhanpur.

The rural police head said Lohian police arrested Gursharan and Sukhwinder with 120gm heroin. Sukhwinder is a kabaddi player and had played in Hong Kong.

“Rajinder Singh Rana and Rocky were taken into custody after Bhogpur police found 6,200 intoxicant capsules and tablets from a car,” said the SSP. On their questionin­g, the police got leads to another accused Mukesh Sharma and he was arrested with 12,150 intoxicant capsules and tablets from a car. Accused Mohammad Ali was nabbed with 35-gm intoxicant powder, Jummadin and Sukhvir were arrested with 45-gm drug powder. HTC
