ED to probe money spent on Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s films

ED WANTS TO QUES­TION SELF­STYLED GODMAN, DERA’S CHAR­TERED AC­COUN­TANT AND HONEYPREET IN­SAN

CHANDIGARH : The En­force­ment Direc­torate (ED) has started its ini­tial in­ves­ti­ga­tion against the Sirsa-based Dera Sacha Sauda for al­legedly vi­o­lat­ing the Pre­ven­tion of Money Laun­der­ing Act (PMLA) and For­eign Ex­change Man­age­ment Act (FEMA).

Sources in the ED said the amount spent on dera chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s films will be probed. The ED started the in­ves­ti­ga­tion on Thurs­day on the Pun­jab and Haryana high court’s di­rec­tions is­sued a day be­fore. The ED will also in­ves­ti­gate the for­eign fund­ing re­ceived by the dera chief.

In its in­ves­ti­ga­tion, the ED is likely to ques­tion the self-pro­claimed godman, who has been sen­tenced to 20 years in prison af­ter he was con­victed in two rape cases.

The dera’s char­tered ac­coun­tant and Honeypreet In­san, the adopted daugh­ter of Gurmeet Ram Rahim, will also be ques­tioned i this con­nec­tion.

Ear­lier in the day, a Dera Sacha Sauda fol­lower, Ram­chan­dra, was ar­rested by the Haryana Po­lice for in­sti­gat­ing vi­o­lence in Panchkula af­ter Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s con­vic­tion by a spe­cial Cen­tral Bureau of In­ves­ti­ga­tion court on Au­gust 25.
