GURGAON: The husband of the former sarpanch of a village near Panchgaon was shot 17 times on Sunday morning while he was taking a morning walk. He was rushed to a private hospital in Manesar where he died. The police said that a property dispute could be the motive for the killing.

Sanjay Singh (38), a property dealer, was shot 17 times and died immediately according to the post-mortem examination report.

The deceased was a resident of Tatarpur village. He, along with his two brothers Lakhpat Singh and Bhim Singh, were involved in property business in the area and was locked in a dispute with some rival groups, the police said.

Police said Sanjay used to take his morning strolls on a fixed route at 7.30am. On Sunday, too, he left for his stroll, but never came home.

Police said that Lakhpat got a call around 9am on Sunday and the caller informed him about the incident. On receiving word of the incident, Lakhpat rushed to the spot and found his elder brother lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but was declared dead on arrival.

A case has been registered at the Bilaspur police station under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. The post mortem examination of the slain property dealer was conducted at the Civil Hospital in Gurgaon.

The post-mortem examination report said that his vital organs were ruptured by bullets. The cause of death, according to the doctors who conducted the post mortem examination, is shock, haemorrhage and excessive loss of blood. While the victim’s brain was intact, he was struck by bullets on the neck, stomach and chest, said one of the doctors who conducted the post-mortem examination.

Police said that an investigation is already under way into the incident.

“We are trying to gather more information about his land dealings, as they could throw some light into this case. Our teams have collected fingerprints and other forensic samples from the crime scene. The victim’s family hasn’t named any particular person or persons who they think could be behind this murder,” Ravinder Kumar, public relations officer, Gurgaon police, said.

On July 24, 2017, Raj Kumar, a 50-year-old property dealer from Medhawas village in Sector 64, was shot multiple times by 8-10 armed assailants in Sector 67. The police suspected the killing to be the fallout of a man’s murder 23 years ago in which the victim was allegedly involved.

On July 15, 2017, a 60-year-old woman was shot at inside her Sector 57 residence. Preliminary investigation pointed to a property dispute as the motive, as the victim owns a large plot on which she has a small house.
